Andy Muschietti Defends The Flash, Despite Mixed Reception and Box Office Performance
Despite initial hype and anticipation, The Flash underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews. Director Andy Muschietti, however, remains proud of the film, despite the negative buzz. In an interview with The Playlist, Muschietti addressed the film's disappointing performance, attributing it to people's tendency to talk and jump on bandwagons.
"A lot of people didn't see it," he said. "But you know how things are these days -- people don't see things, but they like to talk s*** about it, and they like to jump on bandwagons. They don't really know. People are angry for reasons that are unrelated to these things."
Muschietti acknowledged the Ezra Miller controversy's impact on the film's publicity, but he and his team remain supportive of the movie. "Of course, we had a publicity crisis with Ezra that is undeniable. And I'm not questioning that. But yeah, we love the movie. And actually, we really recommend it."
Despite the challenges, Muschietti expressed gratitude for the studio's support. "This may seem immaterial now, but we also had so much support from the studio, really, at a point where they could have been like, you know, backing out because of all the issues we were having with publicity," he said. "And they went all in, and we all went all in."
While some critics found flaws in The Flash, Muschietti believes it's a good movie. He mentioned the distracting CGI and the third act's flatness but praised Ezra Miller's performance and Michael Keaton's return as Batman. Muschietti's involvement with the DC Universe continues, as he's set to direct The Brave and the Bold movie, which is currently in development.
